Some good general collections of papers on optical computing: Proceedings of the IEEE, July, 1984, Special Issue on Optical Computing. Optical Engineering, January/February 1985, Optical Computing Issue. Applied Optics, 15 September 1986. Optical Engineering, October 1986. Optical Engineering, January 1987. Computer, December 1987, Integrated Optical Computing. Optical Engineering, Applied Optics, Journal of Lightwave Technology, and the new Pixel all routinely publish papers on various aspects of optical computing. Regular conferences are held sponsored by SPIE. The next is in Japan, in April. The NSF established and partially funds an Engineering Research Center, the Optoelectronic Computing Systems Center, at the University of Colorado and Colorado State University (Boulder and Fort Collins) to conduct research on systems, devices, and materials for optical and optoelectronic computing.
