A surplusser is offering an OMTI model 20C controller board, which is supposed to handle two 5.25-inch Winchesters. I am considering buying one of these beasties, but I would like to know more about it. If anyone has knowledge of this product, I would appreciate hearing what you know. I am not familiar with the company. Are they still in business? I do not read info-micro regularly, so if anyone from that list cares to respond, please address your message to "towson@amsaa.arpa". The outfit that made the OMTI 20C is still around. They've recently introduced a new controller which is cheaper and has more features. I suspect that the old OMTI 20Cs are being dumped from inventory so they can be replaced with the new controller. As far as I know, there is nothing wrong with the design. You might want to find out if the controllers you are buying have been used or not. If you can figure out what parts to add, you can turn the OMTI 20C into an OMTI 20D, which will control floppy disk drives as well as winchesters. These controllers require a SASI interface to the host computer and will control any winchester with an ST506 type interface. I hope this helps. -- Dave: Open the pod bay doors, please HAL.
