At the risk of getting flamed for trying to compare machines using an inappropriate "benchmark", or for beating what must surely be a dead horse by now, I'll post these times for what they are worth. I ran Ackerman's function on a variety of machines, the program was written in Pascal and compiled using MS-PASCAL. The same .EXE was used for all the times that were gathered. The program was compiled on an AT. Ackerman(3,7) was used as the basic comparison. Times are in seconds. IBM AT TANDY 2000 AT&T 6300 IBM PC Z-150 SPERRY PC IBM PCJr 6 MHz 8 MHz 8 MHz 4.77 MHz 4.77 MHz 4.77 MHz ???? 80286 80186 8086 8088 8088 8088 8088(?) 21.52 24.0 31.07 64.59 64.59 64.59 143.22 The strangest thing to me is that the PC Jr is so slow! It must really have molasses in its veins. Unfortunately, I don't have easy access to a new Z-100 that's been souped up to 8 MHz, I would imagine that it's time would probably be very similar to the 6300's.
