In "Heart of the Comet" by David Brin & ? (I've forgotten who else) there is a VERY heavy man-machine interface. A human winds up LIVING in the machine. On the same topic, Fred Pohl had the "artificial intelligence" of Sigmund von Shrink and Albert Einstein in "Gateway", "Beyond the Blue Event Horizon" and "Heechee Rendevous". Also, in the last book, a human wound up living in a machine again. This may not be the 'Mad Max Grittiness' that the creator of this newsgroup implies with the 'cyberpunk' desgination, but the Heechee books are rather gritty. It's a worse world than "Peace War" or it's sequel "Marooned in RealTime". -- =============================================================================== Mike Bird (No, I don't work for kksys) Mail paths: bird@kksys.UUCP -or- Give me credit for coming up with my own opinions. ...rutgers!meccts!kksys!bird Void where prohibited by law.
