[alt.cyberpunk] Human <-> Computer Interfacing at the Neural Level

From Technology Review magazine (Oct. 87, p. 14), an MIT publication
(available at good newstands):

CHIP NERVES

A combination of microelectronics and microsurgery may eventually
make it possible to restore feeling and use to deadened limbs.
Researchers... have [grown axons] through tiny holes drilled in
silicon chips. [Researchers] envision a time when their inven-
tion would lead to an "implantable switchboard" that would re-
direct nerve impulses cut off because of injuries.

...

The article is much longer, talking about how the thing works and
what it could do. Thought y'all might be interested.
