Quoted without permission from the December 21, 1987 issue of Electronic
Engineering Times, "Satellite Pirates Under Attack":
"The SBCA/MPAA [Satellite Business Communications Association/Motion
Picture Association of America] Piracy Task Force has declared war on
three fronts. The first involves launching massive electronic
countermeasures...
GI's [General Instrument, maker's of descrambler system] VideoCipher
division would be responsible for uplinking the ECM [electronic
countermeasures] software. Most likely, it would cause a pirate's
box to flash sporadically or "go dark", refusing even paid-for
signals and shutting down other boxes tied in to the pirate."
Even ignoring the Electronic CounterMeasures/Intrusion Countermeasures
Electronics similarity, does this sound familiar to anyone?
