Christopher Wyatt(cwyatt@ascella.usc.edu) writes some thoughts on cyberpunk and notes: >I'd appreciate further comments, additions, and corrections to >my thoughts. While I thought your opinions valid and interesting, I think you take a more positive view of cyberpunk's worldview than I do. Two good examples of cyberpunk philosophy to my mind can be found in these quotations: From William Gibson: "The street finds its own uses for things." And from the late, great Janis Joplin, who once mentioned in an interview that she considered herself more of a beatnik than a hippie if she had to be labeled. "What's the difference between the two?" she was asked. "Hippies think the world is going to hell, and want to change it," Joplin replied. "Beatniks know the world is going to hell and don't give a damn." Replace "beatniks" with "cyberpunks" and I think you have a fairly accurate statement, at least in regards to how cyberpunk is represented in literature. The next step *beyond* cyberpunk!) ___________________________________ Alternate mail addresses from UUCP: decwrl!nutmeg.dec.com!bals from the ARPAnet and related networks: bals@nutmeg.dec.com or bals%nutmeg.dec@decwrl.dec.com
