heading into US" (San Francisco Chronicle). According to the article, a "new form" of methamphetamine is appearing in Hawaii from Southeast Asia known as "ice" which can be smoked like crack. From: eesnyder@boulder.Colorado.EDU (Eric E. Snyder) Path: boulder!eesnyder Now, as every schoolboy knows, meth (aka crystal) is the hydrochloride salt of methamphetamine. This salt has a rather high melting point (check those books: 170-175 C) and is heat-labile, decomposing before before vaporization. The free base is a liquid at room temp. and tastes like ammonia (to the point of gagging) when smoked. What is this new stuff? A different salt? Something related to meth which the DEA hasn't pinned down yet and has decided to call meth anyway? Just when we are about to declare war on Colombia, we may have another potential crack epidemic readily synthesized from domestic sources! --------------------------------------------------------------------------- TTGATTGCTAAACACTGGGCGGCGATTCAGGGTTGGGATCTGAACAAAGACGGTCAGATTCAGTTCGTACTGCTG Eric E.
