Venlafexine is a new antidepressant drug of novel chemical structure with similar effects on monoamine reuptake as the tricyclic antidepressants. It appears to be dissimilar to this class of drug in that it has few receptor actions other than to inhibit monoamine reuptake. This appears promising, because most tricyclics have a variety of actions at other receptors, including antihistaminic and anticholinergic side effects which can be quite annoying. I don't know a whole lot about it; as you say, it's quite new and under investigation. If I find out anything more, I'll let you know. -- Steve Dyer dyer@ursa-major.spdcc.com aka {ima,harvard,rayssd,linus,m2c}!spdcc!dyer dyer@arktouros.mit.edu, dyer@hstbme.mit.edu
