[comp.ai.neural-nets] Want references on neural/cellular computing

I'm beginning to get very interested in the neural computing
paradigm (yeah, I live in a closet), and would like to find
ONE or TWO references that would help bring me up to speed with
the state of this art.  A recent, well-edited collection of
articles from the literature would be ideal, if such exists.
