Does anyone have any experience using micros (PCs, PC3270, or anything else for that matter) as programmer "front-ends" on an IBM mainframe? What I am looking for is a hardware/software combo that will: 1. Allow micro based editing, preferably using a SPF-like editor 2. Compile (or just syntax check) COBOL code compatible with VS COBOL and VS COBOL II 3. Transfer syntax checked COBOL source code to MVS partitioned data set 4. Provide 3270 emulation when necessary I have looked at Micro-Focus VS Workbench, Realia COBOL, SPF-PC, Micro SPF (all of these are trademarks, I'm sure) and I would appreciate any feedback from persons using these, but any other information is more than welcome. Send mail, and if there is enough response, I will summarize to the net. (per convention, local receipients can respond through news!)
