[comp.ai.neural-nets] About Neuron Digest vs. comp.ai.neural-nets

marvit@hplpm.hpl.hp.com (Peter Marvit) (01/12/90)

What is this Neuron Digest which shows up every so often? Well, since I am
its moderator, let me explain.

Neuron Digest is actaully sent to a large international mailing on the
Internet. For historical reasons, it is also gatewayed to this news group
(much like Ken Laws' AI-Digest used to be). It's primary audience are
therefore people who receive it as a mailing and who cannot or do not read
news.

Where entries come from; why do there seem to be duplicated from previous
postings? I obviusly cull interesting and relevant submissions from
comp.ai.neural-nets. I sometimes edit individual contributions and usually
group related items together to make a more coherent compendium. I also
receive submissions directly and "borrow" from other (related) mailing
lists and newsgroups. I try to be generous in my editorial discretion, but
will cut or not redistribute entries which will not (IMHO) substantially
add to my readership's knowledge (e.g., lot's of "me too" messages).

Both the Digest and the newsgroups have their uses. The newsgroup is
unmoderated and immediate. The Digest is [moderately] edited and has a
constant backlog of submissions. If you wish to be sure your posting gets
into the Digest, or if you wish to receive the Digest directly, send a
message to "neuron-request@hplabs.hp.com".

Here's hoping 1990 is as Connectionist as ever!
