This is a summary of what I received regarding public domain NN simulators.
1. The Rochester Connectionist Simulator, version 4.2, is available by
anonymous FTP from CS.Rochester.Edu, in the directory pub/simulator.
There's a mailing list - contact: <simulator-request@cs.rochester.edu>.
Further info from bukys@cs.rochester.edu. Has SunView and X interfaces.
2. PDP volume 3, McClelland and Rumelhart has a disk of code included.
3. MIRRORS/II is a general-purpose connectionist simulator
which can be used to implement a broad spectrum of connec-
tionist (neural network) models. MIRRORS/II is dis-
tinguished by its support of an extensible high-level non-
procedural language, an indexed library of networks, spread-
ing activation methods, learning methods, event parsers and
handlers, and a generalized event-handling mechanism.
But, it's in LISP. It's available from mirrors@cs.umd.ed Looks like
this may not exactly be public domain - I'm not sure.
4. There is a package for Mac developed at Univ. of Colorado, Boulder. It
is called Mactivation and can be ftp'd from pub dir of boulder.colorado.edu.
5. An updated version, 1.01, of the Goerge Mason University back prop
simulator, bps is now available via anonymous ftp from gmuvax2.gmu.edu.
6. Digital Equipment Corporation's Neural Design and Simulation
System (NeurDS) has recently been made available for use by
educational institutions. See mcclanahan%cookie.dec.com@decwrl.dec.com.
Many thanks to everyone who sent me mail about this!
Chris Daft.
