Does anyone have information on the Compaq 286 -- especially running XENIX? It appears to be a very nice IBM PC/AT lookalike for less money with more power, and with optional 20, 30 or 70 Mb disk drives. The rumor is that only 20 Mb works with XENIX. We have Xenix running on a Compaq Deskpro (8086). This machine was purchased with a 33M disk. The first installation package which we received from The Santa Cruz Operation would not install, because it did not handle the size of the disk. After a phone call, we received a new disk that replaced one of the previous installation disks (5 1/4 floppies) and everything worked fine with it. Now we have no problems. I would assume that Xenix (286 version) would also have the same fixes for it, and they should come as standard software by now. It has been 4 months since we went through this. These are my opinions alone. John Jabusch U.S. Army Corps of Engineers
