[comp.ai.neural-nets] NN generating Brain waves, whats up ?

rene@ascom.uucp (Rene Bach) (03/21/90)

I have just read in Business Week, March 5 (Hey, we are in Switzerland, (:-)).
that Dr. Roger Traub is simulating the function of 10,000 neurons. His results
are that his simulation generates "brain waves". Anyone know more about these
experiments ? What are the brain waves ? Oscillations in his simulation ? How
is he simulating the neural activity ?

 Any info appreciated.

 Rene

While I'm not familiar with Dr. Traub's research, it sounds like he's
describing some general results of cellular automata research. My memory is
kind of fuzzy in this area, but as I recall Turing was doing research in this
area, attempting to explain things like brain waves, animal stripes and spots,
and what-not. Conways "Life" program is an example of a cellular automata
system.
