[comp.ai.neural-nets] Neural network applications in chemical engineering

vt_ai@abo.fi (07/04/90)

We would like to have some idea of what kind of research is going on in
the area of neural network applications in chemical engineering. So far
we have been able to find only five articles/papers. It is quite unlikely
that so little has been done in this area. We will therefore very much
appreciate if you let us know about on-going research in this field.

There have been a number of papers published in last couple of years
on applications of (mostly back propagation) neural networks in
Chemical Engineering. A significant amount of literature deals with
applications in Process Control. Recently, researchers have tried to
model dynamic systems (with limited success) and explored Hopfield
nets for batch scheduling problems. Recent AI Expert issue (June '90)
cites a successful application at a Philips Petroleum plant in Texas.

I have included a list of references to a few recent publications
below. The list is by no means exhaustive and those interested will
find references to earlier literature in the bibliographies of
these publications. Reference # 4 does not cite the exact title.

The AIChE does not publish any proceedings of the meetings, but
you can contact AIChE or the authors to get a copy.
