#N:gummo:38000001:000:1450 gummo!ber Nov 17 00:34:00 1983 Dear friends, Do you sometimes feel a bit of regret when you unsubscribe to a newsgroup. Do you say to yourselves, "Selves, it's too bad we had to unsubscribe to that newsgroup, something interesting may have come up again (and again and again ...)". Well friends, I've said that to myself, I've said, "I hope one of my friends will let me know if that newsgroup survives the discussion of 'defining intelligence', or 'my favorite song title'". On the other hand, you may have enjoyed the debates of cosmology and "missing" socks (I know I did). So if you want to put a newsgroup out of site, yet you want to stay in touch, then reach out, I'll be there with ... (raise your hand if you know the lyrics) A new moderated newsgroup is forming which will post articles summarizing the major activity in each newsgroup which is read by contributors. Weekly postings will suffice, but monthly may be more realistic. Summaries will be brief, possibly sarcastic, and of course abusive. If you would like to review one or several newsgroups that you read faithfully, send summaries for the last week to month of those newsgroups to: "I'll do it" RD 1 Box 722 Augusta, NJ 07822 -or- allegra!ber If this thing actually gets off the ground, many people have suggested that it be named mod.ber which is obviously acronymic of Blithe Electronic Review

Posting summaries once a months will be kind of useless, since articles over two weeks old will have disappeared by the time someone finds out he wants to read them. I think it's a great idea, though, and should be done about weekly. Summaries should be SHORT, and should not do more than give a bare summary of what has been going on. The interested reader can of course refer to the group in question. Dave Sherman -- {allegra,cornell,decvax,ihnp4,linus,utzoo}!utcsrgv!dave
