[net.micro] Access to USENET

Finney@ssc-vax.UUCP (Ken Finney) (06/29/85)

Awhile ago, there was a question of whether it was possible to
access USENET from home. I hope that this isn't too late, but
I just saw the following ad in the DEC 1984 issure of Dr. Dobb's

If I had an IBM PC (I don't, thank Jobs (-:) I wouldn't take this route,
since I presume hourly rates are as exorbitant for compuserve, etc.

Instead, I would send a check to ihnp4!vortex!lauren for his
UUCP/MAIL/Netnews port to the XT, and then get a free hookup with one
of our local UUCP sites.

Admittedly, about $300 up front is more. But the solution is much
more flexible than paying someone $50/month for net access.

I am (more or less) not affiliated with Vortex Technologies
and have no financial interest in its success.
