Hi, I've downloaded the "Scaled Conjugate Gradient.." paper but my printer was unable to print the entire document. It prints up to page 14 and then I get the following error message: invalidfont: Bad font or dictionary - offending command is findfont. Can some one please help me with this. Thank You Nicholas Dimas e-mail via Internet: ndimas@pikes.denver.colorado.edU

I assume you have a standard Postscript printer, not an Apple Laserwriter, and are trying to print the fixed-up version of the paper from expo.lcs.mit.edu. Simply replace 8 instances of "DeltaSymbol" with "Symbol" in lines 14108 to 15341. The symbols on the graphs will no doubt be other than the author intended, but the meaning is clear enough. One other problem I had was with the encoded sections of the prolog. No pages were printed until I removed lines 403-522, i.e. from "ok userdict/stretch known not"... to the second "cleartomark". Hope this helps. -- Wes Plouff, Digital Equipment Corp, Maynard, Mass. plouff@kali.enet.dec.com Networking bibliography: _Islands in the Net_, by Bruce Sterling _The Matrix_, by John S. Quarterman
