[comp.ai.neural-nets] Smart objects for Space Simulation

    A group of computer science majors at Calpoly have spent the last year
 developing a Star Ship simulator that is ran on ethernet/novell networking
 systems. Currently, one of our modifications is an attempt to implement
 smart objects, so that players may "fight" against starships controlled
 by the computer(s). Requirements would be something along the lines of:

    1) Ability to distinguish ships of different alliances, and chose the
       appropriate weapons and tactics based on certain criteria sets.

    2) Ability to maintain certain ship functions, and decide upon 
       power distribution during rapidly fluctuating battle conditions.

  These are some examples of the type of work that would be required of
 whatever system we chose to implement. Expert systems, neural-nets and
 a few other systems have so far been considered. Any input, comments, 
 questions, or criticisms would be much appreciated. Either posted here,
