[net.micro] How to convince MSDOS that my 1 MByte RAM isn't 0 bytes

jp@lanl.ARPA (07/16/85)

I am running Computer House's PCPRO (MSDOS) on a CompuPro-like
system. Several programs I have tried to run apparently check to
see if enough memory is available. Unfortunately, they are not
smart enough to distinguish 1 Megabyte of RAM from 0 bytes, even
though the obvious fact that they are running precludes zero RAM.

For the moment I have solved the problem by removing some RAM. However,
I find this solution somewhat inelegant, to say the least. The question
is: Does anyone know how to fool these programs into thinking that
there is only .99 Mbytes or something less than 1 Mbyte??

One of the offenders is a PCDOS program written in Lattice C which I
have managed to make work under PCPRO.
