The discrete (or in this case "discreet") frequency illusion is not
"one of the few aditory illusions", but one of the many. Diana Deutsch
wrote an article for Scientific American entitled "Musical Illusions"
(vol 233 in 1975, pg 92). Albert Bregman also discusses quite a few in
his new book "Auditory Scene Analysis".

p.s. Jean-Claude Risset (IRCAM) has popularized the "Sheppard" illusion by
incorporating it into his music (using computers).
