[comp.ai.neural-nets] Anyone doing hardware neural nets?

black@beno.CSS.GOV (Mike Black) (03/31/91)

I've been doing some research in using neural nets for pattern recognition
of different types of data from collection systems. We deal with analog
and digital data and the sky is the limit on top speed desired. We've
had considerable success in applying neural nets to our data and are
interested in a low-cost approach to implementing them in hardware. We
intend to put our analog/digital data directly into a neural net system
and let it inform us when it finds a signal of interest (after much training
of course). Has anyone implemented something like this or played with any
of the new neural chips coming out? We have heard processing times on
the order of 3-6 microseconds for a 64-neuron chip for about $2k. This is
a good start on the ultimate speed we would want :-) I'm particularly
interested in anyone who has done an implementation with these chips to
convince my boss that this is not too risky an adventure.
