Several people have asked me to post a list of references on this topic, so here it is. This certainly does not cover everything that I consider relevant to the issue --- just papers that directly address fault-tolerance questions. The one possible exception is the paper by Morris Hirsch. I have included it because it includes a result about the robustness of recurrent networks, but even as a whole, I think it is an extremely rewarding paper to read. There is some other work on fault-tolerance of neural nets that I have read about, but do not have references for. I will greatly appreciate any more references that others might know about. You can send them to me at aam9n@Virginia.EDU and I will summarize to the net. I will also try to put out a more comprehensive list covering other related issues at some later date. Thanks.
