Upon graduating from Muskingum in May 1992, I intend to do a Ph.D in Computer Science. I'm inclined towards neural networks and working on a project wherein I train a robot using backprop. I've received application packages from several schools and been reading various papers. But I have the following concerns about grad school: 1. Area: Neural networks, biased towards connectionism 2. Environment: Want a big city, a liberal atmosphere and plenty of excitement. 3. Advisor: My undergraduate advisor is a fabulous person and a friend. Will I ever find someone as wonderful as him at grad school? 4. Finance: I'm perpetually broke and must have an assistantship if not a fellowship. 5. Citizenship: Would not being a U.S citizen hurt my chances? 6. Grades: Is a 3.8 from Muskingum irrelevant compared with the same from Harvard or Carnegie? 7. AGRE: What score do good schools expect? I will appreciate getting any hints and would particularly like a list of top 10 schools for neural networks. E-mail: ra_ashar@vax.muskingum.edu Thanks Ronny Ashar.
