Reply-Path: Peter - The printer port on a VAXstation 2000 should automatically be configured as /dev/tty03. The results of... % file /dev/tty03 (should be) /dev/tty03: character special (45/3) VS_SLU #0 terminal #3 Check "man 4 ss" for a few more details. BTW - the cable Digital provides to connect this to a standard printer is the "BCC05". It looks just like the "BCC08", but has a critical difference. The BCC08 is designed to connect consoles to microVAXen. When the terminal is shut off, or the break key is hit, the microVAX will interpret the break as a command to go into console mode (">>>"). In addition, when a VAXstation 2000 is booting, it checks this connection to see if it has a console attached. If one is, the console moves over. If you attach a printer with this cable, you've got a few problems. When you turn off the printer, your system will go "console." When you boot, the console will move to the printer. Not amusing, eh? The BCC05 solves that. The BCC08 says "console" on the end connector, while the BCC05 says "PR". I don't know what the wiring difference between the two is, sorry. ____________ Richard Wood Digital Equipment Corporation Pre-Sales Software Specialist Workstations, Ultrix and Networking San Francisco District SW Services
