Reply-Path: I was wondering if there were any other sites on the net besides us that have TU81+'s on an 8700. How are they? Do you have any problems with them? We have 2 of them, and we are having some problems with them. Some of the symptoms are: 1) Tape drives becoming unavailable to the system. Problem goes away when we reboot. 2) Segmentation faults when opening /dev/rmt0h, 3) hanging in the tape driver (tmscp). We have received two patches from DEC. The first one got rid of problem 1). Unfortunately it seems to have caused problem 2). The updated patch solved 2) but caused 3). So we reverted to the original DEC binary (it was better to lose the tape drives and reboot late at night than to have it crash or hang during the day...). Last night it looked like problem 2) had come back. (We just installed the patch to fix the dev major/minor -> 0,0 problem.) --Fuat -- ARPANET: fuat@columbia.edu U.S. MAIL: Columbia University BITNET: fuat@cunixc.columbia.edu Center for Computing Activities USENET: ...!rutgers!columbia!cunixc!fuat 712 Watson Labs, 612 W115th St. PHONE: (212) 280-5128 New York, NY 10025
