Reply-Path: Hi We are having problems with "dd" ever since we installed Ultrix-32 V2.0. Whenever we write a file using dd, we read the tape and compare the read file with original before sending it out to other systems. On Ultrix V2.0-1, When we write files using "dd" ASCII-EBCDIC conversion and read it back everything seems fine execpt that the charaters written out on tape are not EBCDIC. On examing the tape contents using OD we saw that only spaces were converted to EBCDIC while all digits and letters are still in ASCII ?!?. So we tried using the ASCII-IBM option on dd. On reading the tape that was written out, we find LOTS of changes. So we are not sure what is written is correct. Performance wise, dd seems to be same as before, while its brothers dump tar run much faster. Does anyone have similar problems or a solution. The "dd" worked fine on Ultrix V1.2.
