Reply-Path: We operate a group of 4 MicroVax II's running Ultrix 2.0 and networked via ethernet. We are having trouble getting the Yellow Pages (YP) to serve netgroups. On our YP domain (amath) the machine GAUSS is the master server and RIEMANN (all caps for emphasis) a client. In one experiment we attempted to define a netgroup 'vaxs' for use in the file /etc/hosts.equiv. A ypcat showed: ypcat -k netgroup vaxs (riemann.am.washington.edu,,amath) We then placed the entry +@vaxs in the file /etc/hosts.equiv on GAUSS (starting in column 1 of the file with no trailing blanks and no empty lines following). We then tried to log on to GAUSS from RIEMANN and were prompted for a password indicating the failure of our experiment. An explicit entry in the /etc/hosts.equiv file of GAUSS for RIEMANN will, incidentally, permit logon without a password. We have tried to use netgroups in /etc/passwd with equal lack of success. Please note that all other YP databases are served as advertised - passwords, hosts, services etc. Can anyone explain the failure of YP to serve netgroups? Please respond by mail. Many thanks.
