Is there anyone out there who is running X10 and/or X11 on color vs2000's
under Ultrix 2.0? If so, I'd very much like to talk with you.
We have some color vs2000's on which we'd like to run X (ideally X10 on some
machines and X11 on others) and was wondering if they are indeed qdss
compatible and whether or not stock Ultrix 2.0 will support them. I tried
making a /dev/qd0 that matched the /dev/sg0 (since it is an sg device after
all) as well as a couple of other combinations of major, minor device numbers.
None of them worked. The X10 server dumps core in QILreset() and the X11
server in qdScreenInit() with a tlInit error. We have Ultrix 2.0 sources but
not QIL sources, and I haven't had enough time to plow through the kernel
drivers and disassemble the servers to figure out exactly what is wrong
(although I suspect that some shared data structure isn't getting mapped by the
driver so the server ends up dereferencing trash).
We've heard "wait until the December release of Ultrix 32-w (DEC's X.V10R4
release that has been a non-product several times)" but would really like to
use the tubes before then. Again, we do have an Ultrix 2.0 source license so
getting a new device driver is both legal and doable. Any help for either X10
or X11 would be greatly appreciated.
