[comp.unix.ultrix] panic: bad rmfree & adb

In the last few days, we have been having a problem with one of our
Microvax II's running Ultrix 1.2A. This machine has been crashing
a couple of times daily with a "panic: bad rmfree". Is there a known
bug and (hopefully) fix for this problem? We don't have source. The
crash seems to occur in code that is accessing an x.25 driver.

Another problem that this has aggrevated... I have tried in the past
to use adb to determine the cause of the problem, and have not seen
results that even come close to those in "Using ADB to Debug the Kernel"
(an article in the 4.2 and 4.3 System Manager's manual). In particular,
there are two main problems: stack traces generated with '$c' in Ultrix
show essentially nothing, usually just "_sleep() from <some address>".
The other main problem is that many of the adb scripts that I have (that
I *think* were taken from a 4.2bsd system - that was before my time)
produce results that I don't quite believe (the *other* problem is that
I'm far from being a whiz at adb!). For example, the 'proc' script shows
process ids that do not show up with 'ps kaxl'.

Is there some inherent difference between Ultrix and Unix that causes
'$c' to not work correctly? Are things set up differently so that
4.2 adb scripts will not work? If so, where can I get the equivalent
scripts for Ultrix (1.2 and 2.0)?

Hope someone can help...
