[comp.unix.ultrix] "Unsupported" Ingres

selmar@small-u.UUCP ( elmar folba) (04/06/88)

Hi,
with an ULTRIX(tm) distribution you get a beautiful tape full of what DEC
calls "unsupported" software. Browsing through that a find an animal called
"ingres" plus a few seemingly related command files. Unfortunately I haven't
been able to find even the smalles bit of documentation, README etc - thats
what I call unsupported indeed :-).
Can anybody tell me how I could use that Ingres if at all?

Kind regards, Elmar Folba

[ We tried to run the Ingres included with Ultrix v2.0 and did not succeed.
If you really want to play with Ingres, get a 4.x BSD tape. If you want to
play with a real database manager, don't use the public domain Ingres. :-)

Somewhere there was 2 documents in the PD Ingress. I printed them out and
put them in a binder on the shelf in the lab and don't remember where I got them
from. They are either with the Ingress stuff or in the Documents that came
as a seperate subset on the Unsupported tape. Keep looking and you'll find
them.
