Reply-to: jonathan@cs.kl.ac.uk (Jonathan Knight) We are trying to install Ultrix 2.2 on a Dec MicroVax II. As those of you who have done this will know, the installation program assumes you have all DEC equipment and makes assumptions about your disks from this. We don't have standard DEC disks and so the installation manages to get itself really messed up when the heads run off the end of the disk. The last version we installed was 1.2 and that could be halted and fixed while the installaton was in progress. This version doesn't let you stop. The problems we find are that some programs segment dump, the getlogin() system call keeps returning a zero length character array and /usr/games/zork has an illegal instaruction in it. I know that these features could be explained by other means but the fact that the installation that copied them thought the disk was larger than it actually was seemed to be an indication that this was the problem. If anyone has done the installation on non-DEC disks I would be very pleased to hear how. Many Thanks. -- _____ Jonathan Knight, || JANET: jonathan@uk.ac.keele.cs / Department of Computer Science || UUCP: ...!ukc!kl-cs!jonathan / _ __ University of Keele, Keele, |+------------------------------- (_/ (_) / / Staffordshire.
