[comp.unix.ultrix] Repartitioning an ra0 disk with "chpt"

Maybe someone can help me with a disk partitioning question. I'm running
Ultrix 2.2 on a VAX 11/785 with 3 ra81's. Disk ra0 currently has the
default partitioning, with root in ra0a, swap in ra0b, etc. I want to
repartition this disk - but NOT the root or swap partitions. I want to
leave partitions "a" and "b" as is. What I'm wondering is whether I can
repartition the other filesystems on that disk without affecting the
root filesystem. Of course, I would have a recent dump of root available
just in case. Can I do the following to change the sizes of partitions
"e" (in which I have /var) and "f" (which is /usr) ??

Perform a 0 level dump of /var (ra0e) and /usr (ra0f).

Dismount those two filesystems.

Use "chpt" to change the sizes of "e" and "f" (note: they will be larger).

/etc/newfs the new partitions and run /etc/fsck.

Mount the new partitions "e" and "f" and restore the files.

I would perform the above in single-user mode. Can I do this without
affecting the root filesystem ??
