Reply-to: perry@princeton.edu (Kevin R. Perry) We have a DEC VAX-8700 (well, now they tell me it's called an 8810 - whatever), running ULTRIX. It has the usual RA81's attached via KDB50's. And we're out of disk space. We are of course considering getting some RA82's, but the powers-that-be insist that we at least try to find a lower-cost-per-megabyte solution before going ahead. Hmm. Can anyone suggest some third-party disks that talk MSCP, or controller/driver/disk combinations compatible with the BI Bus and ULTRIX? For instance, a controller that talks SMD to the disk would be great, since we've had lots of success with CDC Sabre drives on SUNs, and would be happy to put some on the VAX if this is possible. If you can even lend just a hint on this subject, let me know. And try not to take too long, as my disks are getting full FAST (why didn't we start thinking about this a couple months ago?!) Thanks in advance for any replies. Kevin Perry Sys Programmer Princeton Univ. Computing & Info. Tech. <perry%phoenix@princeton.edu>
