I resolved my RIS problems. Turns out that RIS actually is pretty slick. Everything that DEC put IN the documentation is right. The kicker (for me) is what they left OUT. I kept insisting that my DECstation's name was "spooge.clemson.edu". Unfortunately, this was blowing the installation script's mind, 'cause all it could deal with was "spooge". Oh well, we live and learn. I can't believe that I'm the only one who thinks in fully.qualified.domain.names. Hopefully this posting will help out others in the future. After I got the OS installed, everything was great. For about two hours. Then something in the system unit fried. I'm starting to think that maybe I'm not well suited to using modern electronic equipment... maybe I should just dig out that old Silent-700 and use it for a terminal :-). -Mike Marshall hubcap@clemson.edu
