[comp.unix.ultrix] Weirdness with DECWindows

kovar@popvax.harvard.edu (David C. Kovar) (08/22/89)

First, the hardware/software: A diskless VAXStation 2000 running
Ultrix 3.0 and UWS 2.0.

Two problems. First, the first person who logs into the station using
DECWindows after a reboot gets in as root. After they log out everything
behaves normally.

Secondly, the termcap for the dxterm appears to be wrong. When I attempt
to insert characters on a line with vi or emacs, the new characters
overwrite the old. A redraw of the screen fixes everything. Using a normal
xterm works fine. I seem to recall seeing this problem with the normal
vt100 termcap but at least when you stopped the insert in vi it would
redraw the line. Under dxterm you don't even get that much.

Any advice would be most welcome.
