[comp.unix.ultrix] GNU Emacs incremental-search on DECstation 3100

terry@sunquest.UUCP (Terry Friedrichsen) (08/25/89)

I really HATE asking a question I know I've seen asked and answered before,
but it wasn't important to me then (the gods have looked favorably upon me
and caused a DECstation 3100 to appear on my desk ...).

I am running the GNU Emacs off DEC's Ultrix distribution (18.52, I think),
and incremental-search isn't working correctly. The first couple of
characters to search for are OK, but after that you must type the character
3 times to get the next increment to happen (and sometimes THAT fails ...).
The first keypress has no apparent effect (not even echo), the second
keypress causes a beep (but no echo, and "mark set", followed by confusion,
if the character happens to be an 's'), and the third keypress finally
"takes", and the incremental search goes on.

So if you have an answer, please mail me (if reply fails, please try
TERRY@SDSC.EDU). Thanks.

BTW, for those who will flame me for this - yes, I checked, and the previous
articles have expired here; and no, I don't see any "intro to blah newsgroup"
stuff, so I don't know if or where the articles are archived. So if there's
still something I haven't done that I should have, please flame away - you'll
be teaching me something new (besides vocabulary words!).

The bug is in Gnu Emacs. Fixed in 18.54, which runs just fine on the PMAX.

Get ahold of 18.54; it fixes the search problem (I use it all the time
on my PMAX (DECstation
3100)).
