[comp.unix.ultrix] Will Ultrix 1.2 or 2.2 binaries run under 3.0/3.1?

bin@primate.wisc.edu (Brain in Neutral) (09/02/89)

Do any binaries from Ultrix 1.2 or 2.2 run under Ultrix 3.0 or 3.1?
I presume that anything that uses syslog(), for instance, won't, since
Ultrix is now using the 4.3BSD struct hostent, but will "plain vanilla"
things still work?

Or, perhaps another way of putting it: if some binaries will run, what things
cause a given binary not to run?

Way back in the days of ULTRIX 1.0, I compiled kermit on a 750.

I have used that executable on every version of ULTRIX since (except for
3.1), and on many different vaxes including 750, 780, 8810 and microvax II.

To some degree, a VAX is a VAX.

PS - finally one of the kermit users got feed up with my ancient version of
kermit and compiled a new one...
