[comp.unix.ultrix] VMS as Server for Ultrix RIS?

mjb@acd4.UUCP ( Mike Bryan ) (09/13/89)

I understand that it is possible to use a VMS system as a server for
remote installation of software on Ultrix systems, using RIS. Does
anyone have information on this? What DECNet/MOP files have to be
setup on the VMS side, and where/how are the distribution tapes
loaded?

Thanks for any input you can provide.

Yes, you can use a VMS system for doing remote installation
but not with RIS. The Remote System Management software (RSM)
has support for Ultrix clients in it. You can also manage
backups of the Ultrix clients using RSM.

I've never needed to use RSM for my Ultrix systems, so I
don't know any of the details.
