Tidbits I heard at a DECUS LUG meeting last night. No guarantee the information is correct, but it *did* come from DEC representatives. DEC is going to have DECForms for Ultrix/DECWindows available 3/90. An Ultrix version of their CASE tools (including SCA and LSE) will be available 10/90. An Ultrix version of the LAT Terminal Server Manager will also be available sometime in 1990. Of course, all of these are currently available for VMS. When asked about the problem of DEC providing tools for VMS, but not for Ultrix, the DEC person said that "all new products will be released simultaneously for both VMS and Ultrix." I'll believe it when I see it, but it is at least a shred of hope. -- Mike Bryan, Applied Computing Devices, 100 N Campus Dr, Terre Haute IN 47802 Phone: 812/232-6051 FAX: 812/231-5280 Home: 812/232-0815 UUCP: uunet!acd4!mjb ARPA: acd4!mjb@uunet.uu.net "Did you make mankind after we made you?" --- XTC, "Dear God"

Digital's developers are only human, after all, and things aren't always READY for release simultaneously. When they're not, there's always the choice of either (1) holding up the earlier version to release with the later one, or (2) releasing each when it becomes ready. Which do you choose? I'd prefer to release them when they're ready, and not hold up one version simply because its other-OS sibling hasn't made its way through qualification yet. Nonetheless, it's an ideal we'd like to come close to. ---Pete kaiser@cheese.enet.dec.com DEC, 2 Mt. Royal Ave. (UPO1-3), Marlboro MA 01752-9108 508-480-4345 (machine: 617-641-3450)
