I have 2 mVAXII running ULTRIX 3.0, rev 64. They are identically installed and have idetical hardware (RA53, WREN IV, 10 Mb) One one of them mail suddenly have stopped working. The sendmail.cf are unaltered (and identical on both). The problem can bee seen when sending mail *to* the machine, locally and remote. 35 tor-/usr/staff/tage>/usr/lib/sendmail -v tage We are testing the mail . tage... I have diff(1)ed the two mailers, the are identical. What do I try from here ? ____________________________________________________________________________ | Department of Computer Science, University of Tromsoe | |Tage Stabell-Kuloe Postboks 953, N-9000 TROMSOE, NORWAY. | | Phone +478344053 |

Rather than try to guess or even think about it, let me point out that in most cases some useful information can be gleaned from running the fverify program. cd / foreach i (/usr/etc/subsets/*inv) echo Checking $i fverify -n < $i end In your case, check things like a bad format or bad info in /etc/hosts, bad /usr/bin/mail program, etc. Fred

we just had the same problem. turns out that a couple of the uucp spool directories had somehow disappeared; although we have no idea why this happened. anyway, this causes the error from uux. check the contents of /usr/spool/uucp/ERRLOG, you should find more detailed error messages. and make sure that all of the directories in /usr/spool/uucp/sys/DEFAULT and /usr/spool/uucp/sys/othersystem are present. see the "guide to uucp" section in the ultrix "system management" manual (volume 3). [should be C., D., D.yoursys, D.yoursysX, and X. directories, all owned by uucp, group owner daemon.] you can also try running uux (as root) with debugging (-x9) turned on, to see what's happening. don -- ------ don kossman, sei information technology, los angeles ...sun.com!suntzu!seila!don ...uunet!mahendo.jpl.nasa.gov!jplgodo!seila!don
