[comp.unix.ultrix] lpd, hosts.equiv and netgroups

gcardwel@envy.eng.uci.edu (Guy Cardwell) (10/22/89)

Could someone please defend or refute the following statement:

In Ultrix 3.0 the line printer daemon does not allow the use of
netgroups in hosts.equiv to specify the access control on a printer.

I have not be able to make this work... although the yp escape
sequence does the right thing for all other functions. (ie rlogin)

Anybody have any comments?

Thanks
Guy

Well, on the con side, the documentation makes no mention of netgroups
or other yp enhancements, while on the pro side, it appears that the
binary does contain a copy of the netgroup object.

	getnetgrent.c	9.1	ULTRIX	12/7/88
	innetgr.c	9.1	ULTRIX	12/7/88

You might try doing your thing on the hosts.lpd file rather than the
hosts.equiv file, assuming that yp has anything to do with hosts.lpd.
