[comp.unix.ultrix] DS3100 & ttyline plotter hang problem

pal@murdu.oz (Philip Leverton) (11/28/89)

A user in a department here has a DS3100 running Ultrix 3.0 with 16Mb
of memory. A Roland DXY1300 plotter is attached to the DS3100 via a serial
line (defined in /etc/ttys). The problem they are experiencing is that the
DS3100 hangs if, when sending a plot to the Roland, activity like opening
another window is performed on the DS3100. If no such action is done, then
the plot will be completed successfully, although the DS3100 is then
unavailable for serious use (otherwise the hang will most likely result).
The Roland has a 1 Mbyte buffer apparently, and when rebooting the DS3100,
the plotter again proceeds to draw some stuff (from its internal buffer?)
I'm thinking that it could be a control problem on the serial line.
(it is defined as 'nomodem' in /etc/ttys).

Has anyone met anything like this and have any suggestions?

(I know they should go to Ultrix 3.1 as soon as possible)

thanks

The upgrade to 3.1 is the quickest, easiest, and surest way to fix the
problem you described. I know: my machine used to have exactly the
same symptoms. :-(
