Please pardon any improprieties but I've never posted news before: I'm managing a Microvax II, running Ultrix 3.0 and I need a viable 9-Track solution for backups and such. We were using a Kennedy 9600A with an Emulex TC02 controller, but it doesn't seem to work anymore. Thinking it was the controller, we bought a new Emulex QT13. When the card was first installed it all worked for a day, then began with write errors, read errors, and finally "device off line". We've since had two different places check out the tape drive, changed the cables a dozen times, and rebuilt the kernel twice. To no avail. I've spent weeks on the phone with DEC (very helpful, but...), Emulex (not sure), and various service types who have all pointed their respective fingers at one another. I think it's the tape drive's Formatter card, so we're about to buy a new tape drive. But before I do: Has anyone had any experience with Ultrix 3.0, 9-Tracks, and QT13's? Re: Buying a new 9-Track - any suggestions/recommendations? Please respond via email. All standard disclaimers apply. -- Janet L. Marcisak UUCP: ...harvard!ftp!jlm FTP Software, Inc.
