If you were to arrange your system properly, you could probably overcome some of the problem. I.E. The CRAY 2 has 5 processors (1 for io & 4 for everything else). If you arrange these such that their inertias are in opposing directions, you could run at very high speeds, yet at any time have enough stored energy to halt within 1 cycle (4.1 nsec). Isn't paralellism wonderful?
