[net.micro] Software "piracy"

bmg@mck-csc.UUCP (Bernard M. Gunther) (08/12/85)

I have copied many programs that were certainly not in the public domain
for an Apple ][, but the majority of these copies are presently sitting on
shelves at home collecting dust. I have copied only two programs which I
used with any regularity, one was Applewriter and the other Raster Blaster.
Once I confirmed that I not only liked the programs and they served my
purposes, I bought them. I have suffered through many a purchased program
which had to be bought before it could be sufficently tested. In the case
of Applewriter, I got a copy, modified it to work and after I was
successful with my modification, I bought it.

Basically, I like the freeware idea and have applied the concept to
software not sold under the freeware concept. Good software should be paid
for, but this is an ehtical decision which can't really be well enforced.
