Help! My system is a VAX-11/780 running ULTRIX-32 V3.1. I would like to generate accounting for my (LP25) line printer. My /etc/printcap is as follows: lp|a local LP25 printer on an LP11 parallel interface:\ :lp=/dev/lp0:\ :sd=/usr/spool/lpd:\ :lf=/usr/adm/lpd-errs:\ :af=/usr/adm/lp.acct:\ :mx#5000:\ :mc#3:\ :pl#66:\ :tr=\f: # PostScript printer driven by TranScript software # PostScript and TranScript are trademarks of Adobe Systems Incorporated ps|ps|postscript|PostScript:\ :lp=/dev/ps:sd=/usr/spool/ps:\ :lf=/usr/adm/ps-log:af=/usr/adm/ps.acct:\ :br#9600:rw:fc#0000374:fs#0000003:xc#0:xs#0040040:mx#0:sf:sb:\ :if=/usr/newlib/ps/psif:\ :of=/usr/newlib/ps/psof:gf=/usr/newlib/ps/psgf:\ :nf=/usr/newlib/ps/psnf:tf=/usr/newlib/ps/pstf:\ :rf=/usr/newlib/ps/psrf:vf=/usr/newlib/ps/psvf:\ :cf=/usr/newlib/ps/pscf:df=/usr/newlib/ps/psdf: Accounting is properly generated for the postscript printer - but not for the line printer. An ls -la of /usr/adm/*.acct gives: -rw-rw-r-- 1 daemon 0 Jan 11 09:29 /usr/adm/lp.acct -rw-rw-r-- 1 daemon 205170 Jan 11 11:07 /usr/adm/ps.acct Note: Except for af, all other printcap functions work ok. Any help would be appreciated. E-MAIL if possible. Marc Ertle System Manager, NGDC Internet: mre@ngdc2.colorado.edu

An ls -la of /usr/adm/*.acct gives: Accounting requires specifying both the accounting file name and a filter that actually writes to the accounting file. In the postscript entry you have if= specified, which is probably doing the trick - select an appropriate filter for the line printer entry... -- George Robbins - now working for, uucp: {uunet|pyramid|rutgers}!cbmvax!grr but no way officially representing arpa: cbmvax!grr@uunet.uu.net Commodore, Engineering Department fone: 215-431-9255 (only by moonlite)
