We are begining to look at several additional peripheral devices for our DECstation 3100's. I would appreciate any advice you have out there on the following topics: 1) Disk drives larger than 600mb. What vendors? What problems? 2) 8mm backup subsystems. What vendors? What problems? Questions like this must come up often, but we only have an itemhold=14 so I can't check previous postings. Please send either followups or replies. I'ld appreciate any and all advice/horror stories/recommendations. Thanks to all in advance. -- +----------------------------+-----------------------------------------------+ | Ken Krueger | Voice: (714) 952-6151 | | McDonnell Douglas M&E | | | Internal Systems Support | Internet: krueger@tacvax.mdcbbs.com | | 5701 Katella Avenue | UUCP: uunet!mdcbbs!tacvax.mdcbbs!krueger | | Cypress, CA 90630-5099 | PSI: PSI%31060099980024::KRUEGER | +----------------------------+-----------------------------------------------+ | Be nice to me, or I'll tell my uncle Freddy... An obvious possibility for > 600Mb disk drives is the DEC RZ56. I have a DS3100 with two of these on it, and will be adding a third shortly. If you look at recent/upcoming messages on comp.unix.ultrix you'll see notes about the edits that have to be made to the install script to get RZ56s to go (until a new release of Ultrix comes out with the RZ56 "built in"). Or you can contact the DEC Ultrix support folks in Colorado .... Eliot -- J. Eliot B.
