[comp.unix.ultrix] SLIP for Ultrix 3.1

mjb@acd4.UUCP ( Mike Bryan ) (12/19/89)

I remember an earlier discussion regarding DEC's "unsupported" version
of SLIP, wherein it only supports a single line. We're having this
problem now (Ultrix 3.1), and of course I wasn't paying close enough
attention while the discussion was going on. Changing the config file
to increase the number of units does not seem to help; apparently DEC
has one or more modules hardcoded to allow just a single line.

We need a working SLIP soon. If you know how to make DEC's SLIP work
with more than one line, please let me know. If you know of any other
version of SLIP which works under Ultrix 3.1 (VAX and/or MIPS CPUs),
that would be great too. We don't care which way we get it, we just
need it working.

Thanks in advance for any help.

We used to have a version of SLIP from ucb that would work on an
Ultrix 2.3 system. With the changes to 3.1 it no longer works due
to massive changes in the internal structures of the kernel. We
have looked at the SLIP that DEC supplies with Ultrix and tried it
but it will only allow one connection per link, which isn't really
useful. We also do not have Ultrix source so changing the old driver
is not very likely either.

The question is then, could anyone please direct us to a PD
version of SLIP that will run on Ultrix 3.1 machines? It would
also be wonderful if the code would work on the DEC RISC machines.
Please e-mail any information that you might have to me and I will
summarize the net if there is interest.

Thanks in advance!
